Midwifery is a woman-centered empowering model of maternity care utilized throughout the world. Midwives, like our certified nurse midwife (CNM), Tonya Hemmings, provide care and support for women through all phases of their life, providing well woman and specialized gynecological care as well.
Certified nurse midwives are highly trained, independent care providers for mothers and infants who consult with physicians when appropriate to offer women the full spectrum of care. Midwives have unique expertise and skills supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and strong recoveries during the postpartum period. They provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs, and serve as watchful guardians during pregnancy and birth, practicing judicious use of medical interventions only when necessary.
Combining their unique expertise as a certified nurse midwife and a physician respectively, Tonya and Dr. Watkins provide all patients with the best care possible with one unified focus: empowering and supporting women throughout their lives. This collaborative view is supported by the American College of Nurse Midwives and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
